297. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the minister representing the
Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the recent bushfires that
burnt around 400 000 hectares north and east of Esperance in late February and
early March this year.
(1) What was the
total financial cost of the response to the fires for the Department of Fire
and Emergency Services?
(2) How many
Department of Fire and Emergency Services staff worked on these fires; how many
of these staff were based in Perth; and how many were based in Esperance for
the duration of the fires?
(3) How many
volunteers from the Esperance region assisted in fighting these fires, and how
many were brought in from other locations to assist?
(4) Can the
minister please provide the total cost of firefighting appliances, aircraft,
earthmoving machinery or other equipment utilised in fighting the fire, and a breakdown
for each?
