BUSH FIRE BRIGADES — APPLIANCES
719. Hon MATT BENSON-LIDHOLM to the minister
representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
(1) Can the
Minister for Emergency Services confirm whether each of the following bush fire
brigades will be receiving new fire trucks/appliances, as promised, this fire
season —
(a) Preston Beach;
(b) Esperance;
(c) Victoria Plains;
(d) Gosnells; and
(e) Manjimup?
(2) If no to any part of (1), why not?
(3) If no to
any part of (1), have any or all of those promised trucks/appliances been
reallocated to the Margaret River region?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(3) The
following brigades will receive new appliances in 2012–13 as part of a
replacement program for currently serviceable fire appliances already in
operation—Shire of Waroona, Preston Beach Bush Fire Brigade; Shire of
Manjimup, Quinninup Bush Fire Brigade; Shire of Victoria Plains, Calingiri Bush
Fire Brigade; City of Gosnells, Gosnells Bush Fire Brigade; and Shire of
Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. However, delivery
timings have been readjusted based on the need to allocate new appliances to
areas of highest risk in readiness for the 2012–13 southern bushfire
season. Furthermore, new appliances for these brigades were scheduled as part
of a replacement program for currently serviceable fire appliances already in
operation in those local communities. The short delay in delivery of the
replacement fire appliances will not reduce current fire suppression
capabilities and FESA will work with local government to ensure that the
appliances affected by the delayed replacement remain in a fit operational
condition until replaced.
