Of the $9.1 million allocated in the 2011–12 budget for increased cost-of-living payments, how much is new money and how much is money previously underspent? Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The $9.1 million allocation in the 2011–12 state budget is new money for increased cost-of-living payments. The cost-of-living payment went from $104.80 to $150 for singles, and from $157.22 to $225 for couples. The number of cost-of-living payments in 2011 is 254 464, and in 2010 it was 245 372. The cost of 2011 payments to the end of September is $33 784 125, and that makes up the difference.
