EAST FREMANTLE OVAL — REDEVELOPMENT
646. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Sport and
Recreation:
I have a supplementary question. On
behalf of members and fans of the East Fremantle Football Club, can the
minister confirm that potentially he and the Minister for Local Government may
have to go down in person and sort this out with the council?

Do
members know what is really quite interesting about the member? He is a bit
like Vicky Pollard from that old series —
Mr J.N. Carey interjected.
Mr D.A. TEMPLEMAN : It is a good
one, though.
The member for Roe has also argued
in this place that we are taking away too many powers from local governments and they should have more power and more say. On
this point, the member argues, ''They're out of control, the
local government down there. You should be reaching in and stopping
them!'' In other debates, he says, ''Oh! Local governments—you're
hurting them. You're planning them out of existence and you shouldn't.''
Get sensible, member. What is your real position? Do you support local
governments having more power and doing things like overriding football clubs
about what signage they should have or do you not? You're fork tongued—your
tongue is in forks! You keep coming in here arguing one way and then going and
arguing the other. Where are you? I ask that: where are you?
Let me say this and I will make it
very clear: we think that the local government needs to get its act together
and simply say to the club, ''You're an important asset as part
of this facility. Yes, you need to have your memorabilia. Yes, you need to have
your signage. Yes, you want to celebrate heritage because that can increase
membership.'' On the other hand, the member cannot come here and say, ''When
it suits me, I'll change my mind depending upon the debate.''
That is what you keep doing—and you are not very good at it. You are
very bad and you have to stop!
