MIDLAND LEARNING ACADEMY
257. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Education:
I refer to the new learning academy
for students with extremely complex needs.
(1) What is the staffing profile?
(2) How many students has the
academy engaged with since the start of term 1 to date?
(3) Have any
concerns been raised about occupational safety and health matters since the
opening; and, if so, what are those concerns and how have they been resolved?
(4) Have any
concerns been raised about staff facilities since the opening; and, if so, what
are those concerns and how have they been resolved?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) The new
learning academy has the following staffing profile: school administrator,
level 4, one full‑time equivalent; teachers, 2.4 FTE; school
psychologist, one FTE; education assistant, 0.85 FTE; and school officer, one
FTE.
(2) As at 23
March 2016, six students are enrolled in the learning academy. Given the
complexity of these cases, a gradual intake model has been adopted to allow
students to transition back to learning in a highly supported, calm and orderly
environment. The program has shown very promising early signs with an
attendance rate of well over 90 per cent being achieved by the currently
enrolled students.
(3)–(4) I have not been
advised of any concerns.
