the minister representing the Minister for Energy:

election commitment to employ 50 new apprentices each year at Western Power.
(1) What is the

I thank the honourable Leader of the
Opposition for some notice of the question. The following information has been
provided to me by the Minister for Energy.
Emerging technology has changed the
way Western Power operates its network and, as a result, it requires fewer
traditional apprentices. The state government and Western Power have worked
together to honour the spirit of the election commitment, delivering 15
apprentices, 10 graduates, five trainees and 20 pre-apprentice scholarship
opportunities per annum, creating multiple training opportunities for Western Australians
of different educational backgrounds and electrical training experience levels.
(1) The answer to
(1) is in tabular form. It lists the apprenticeships, trainees, graduates et cetera
and the years, with numbers for each. I seek leave to have it incorporated into Hansard .
Leave granted.

(2) In the time available, it was not possible to
obtain figures for all training programs. The figures for traditional apprentices are 43 for 2017, 49 for 2018 and 51 for 2019. The Minister for
Energy will provide the full figures to the honourable member once they are
available.
