The mapping of remnant vegetation referred to in the response to Question on Notice 5839 was prepared by the Department of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA). This mapping is for the south-west and agricultural areas of Western Australia.
DAFWA periodically updates this mapping using a methodology described in
Native vegetation in Western Australia: extent, type and status. Resource Management Technical Report 249 (
February 2002), which is available on its website.
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) intersected the 2009 DAFWA remnant vegetation mapping with the boundaries of the Swan Coastal Plain bioregion, and the Perth and Peel Region Schemes, to calculate the area of vegetation remaining.
DEC has prepared a map that shows the extent of remnant vegetation on the Swan Coastal Plain and Jarrah Forest bioregions area of the Perth and Peel regions. I table the attached map.
