I refer to the Attorney General’s comments published in The Weekend Australian that Moira Rayner was guilty of “appalling misbehaviour at the highest level”; again in the Parliament yesterday that “Moira Rayner has behaved in a reprehensible fashion that deserves to be condemned”; and, reportedly, “I did not want to do as Moira Rayner had done and tip off people about what was going on.” Will the minister explain how those comments square with his action in tipping off the former Assistant Commissioner of Police, and now Minister for Seniors, about the Lewandowski affidavit and other documents before the former Anti-Corruption Commission received them? Mr J.A. McGINTY

I would have thought it was patently obvious that when I was made aware by the Commissioner of the CCC of the current investigation involving phone taps and other matters that we know about into the corrupt behaviour of Mr Marquet, coupled with the visit by Ms Rayner to him, that nothing should be said about the investigation. The other matter is a matter of historical interest of some 20 years ago.
