OAKAJEE
PORT
1187. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the minister representing the
Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade:
I refer to the state government's
$332 million commitment to expand Geraldton port. Are there still plans to
build a port at Oakajee; and, if so, when will construction commence given that
no funding was allocated in the budget forward estimates?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. On behalf of the minister representing the
Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade, I provide the following answer.
A deepwater port at Oakajee is a multigenerational
project that will act as a major business gateway for Western Australia and the
midwest region. Development of a port at Oakajee is dependent upon private
sector interest and commitment.
