The Australian Pesticides and
Veterinary Medicines Authority is the national independent statutory authority
with regulatory responsibility for agricultural and veterinary chemicals. It
determines whether a chemical is safe for users, consumers, the environment and
trade before it is registered for use in Australia. It is also responsible for
determining label requirements. The APVMA is aware of current reports and
developments relating to the use of glyphosate. It is closely monitoring and
considering any new scientific information associated with the safety and
effectiveness of glyphosate. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional
Development works within the legal regime described above.
