Mr. Buswell questions the Minister about the progress, timeline, cost, and funding for expanding TRELIS (likely a government IT system) as a shared service provider. The Minister's response indicates ongoing development, existing shared services, and future planning without specific cost or funding allocations yet.

I refer the Minister to page 44 of the 2004-2005 Annual Report of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, which states that during 2005-2006 the Department will “Assess the next phase of TRELIS development as a shared service provider.” And I ask -
(1) What is the current status of the assessment of TRELIS as a shared service provider?
(2) When is it anticipated that TRELIS will be expanded to operate as a shared service provider?
(3) What is the expected cost of this phase of TRELIS development?
(4) What funding has been allocated for this phase of the TRELIS development?

These system developments have required major changes to TRELIS. The TRELIS work program for 2006/07 is likely to focus on further changes associated with the implementation of the Police Incident Management System and the decommissioning of the Police Mainframe. There are also likely to be further changes to TRELIS as a result of the proposed Road Traffic Act Amendment Bills and some minor service improvements within the Department for Planning and Infrastructure's Licensing Business Unit. (2) As highlighted, TRELIS is already a shared services provider for agencies such as Police, the Department of the Attorney General and the Office of Liquor, Racing and Gaming. Expansion beyond this base level of shared services will be considered in the future. (3) The cost of the next phase of expansion will depend on the strategies outlined in a Strategic Development Plan which is currently being developed. These costs will be determined as part of the development of the plan and in future budget submissions. (4) No funding has been allocated at this stage. The funding allocations will be developed as part of the finalisation of future budgets.
