This question is in response to a question I asked last week
and a clarification.
I refer to the registering and recording of Aboriginal sites.
(1) How many
lodged or reported sites are currently awaiting assessment by the Aboriginal
Cultural Material Committee—ACMC?
(2) What is
the average turnaround or waiting time for an assessment to be done by the ACMC
once a site or an area of interest has been lodged or reported?

currently 6 234 lodged sites awaiting assessment by the Aboriginal Cultural
Material Committee.
(2) The
Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 does not prescribe an average turnaround or
waiting time for an assessment to be completed by the committee. The Department
of Aboriginal Affairs has been proactive in setting a 70-day time frame for
assessments as part of a section 18 application under the Aboriginal Cultural
Material Committee.
