I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) No. As stated
in a media statement by the Minister for Planning and me dated 8 August 2018,
the total project cost for stage 1 is $70.6 million. The additional cost is due
to the unique vertical nature of this proposal, which limits opportunities for
future alterations and additions. This requires a more comprehensive stage 1
build, including specialist facilities for design and technology at lower
ground level, and the gymnasium, cafeteria and lecture theatre at the size
required for the ultimate design capacity of 2 000 students. As the site is restricted,
parking is also required to be located underground.
(2) Stage 1 has
been costed at $70.6 million. Stage 2 is still in the planning phase and
funding is yet to be allocated.
(3) Yes. The
original budget for stage 1 has increased by $2.8 million, from $67.8 million
to $70.6 million.
