UNITED STATES
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION — PREMIER'S COMMENTS
773. Dr D.J. HONEY to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. Why has the Premier deliberately set out to
alienate a potential future United States President in charge of a nation
critical to our future when he has no possible influence over the election
outcome?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please—member

Precious moments, Madam Speaker!
Precious moments of these final days of Parliament are slipping away and yet this
is the opposition's priority. As I said, I am not sure they are paying
much attention to what is going on in Western Australia. Obviously, the point
of view of the global trade situation is something that is of interest to the
media, and that is why they are interested in my view because we are the most
trade-exposed economy in Australia. We are
the strongest economy in Australia, and we will keep it that way. WA jobs will
continue to be our fundamental focus. We will not be distracted by these
silly, pointless games from those opposite. Quite frankly, I do not think those
in the US are particularly looking all that closely at us at the moment. We
know that AUKUS will continue to play an important role in our economy. We know
that it enjoys bipartisan support in the US as it does in Australia, which is
one of the reasons it was also a point of interest by the media. Quite frankly,
I apologise to the Western Australian public and the people here today for the
wasted last eight minutes.
