FREMANTLE PORT — LEAD EXPORTS 47. Hon PAUL LLEWELLYN to the Leader of the House representing the Premier: The Premier stated to the media prior to the election that lead would not be shipped out of the port of Fremantle if his party won the election. Is the Premier intending to stand by his promise to prevent the export of lead from the port of Fremantle? Hon NORMAN MOORE

AnswerView source ↗

I thank Hon Paul Llewellyn for the question. The export of lead through Esperance led to the contamination of the surrounding area. The bulk export of lead will not be allowed through Fremantle or any other residentially bound port. The Environmental Protection Authority released its report on the export of bagged and containerised lead by Magellan Metals Pty Ltd through Fremantle port. The Minister for Environment is currently consulting with the ministerial decision-making authorities to ensure that due process is followed by the new government.
