DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING AND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT — ADVERTISING REVENUE
I refer to the $2.5 million in additional advertising revenue, rising to $10 million in the out years, as outlined on page 74 of budget paper No 3, for the Departments of Planning and Transport. (1) Has the minister’s department engaged any suitable marketing expertise to determine more accurately the revenue potential from the opportunities for increased advertising revenue; and, if yes, what advice has been provided? (2) What additional advertising opportunities has the government identified to generate this revenue? (3) How many additional billboards does the government expect will be required to generate this additional revenue? (4) Has the government identified the location or size of any new billboards as part of this policy; and, if yes, what is their location and size? Hon SIMON O’BRIEN

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) No. (2) The Department of Transport is investigating signage and advertising opportunities in its metropolitan boat harbours to increase revenues. In the licensing area, a number of possible opportunities have been identified, but, before proceeding with a detailed analysis of these, the department is working with Treasury in relation to the regulations of the State Trading Concerns Act 1916 to authorise the Department of Transport to generate income in this way. (3) Not determined. (4) No.
