ELIZABETH
QUAY — PLUMBING REMEDIAL WORKS
435. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to
the Minister for Planning:
I refer to the
faulty plumbing work at Elizabeth Quay.
(1) What is
the expected cost of the remedial works for this problem, and can the minister
rule out that taxpayers will have to pay for any of these works, including
replacement pavement and landscaping?
(2) Does the
minister accept that it is a complete failure of government oversight that
major plumbing works have been allowed to be undertaken at this government
project without the government having to comply with its own government regulations?
(3) Can the
minister rule out that any of this bad piping is responsible for water problems
at the water park or in the inlet?

I thank the
member for some notice of the question.
(1) All costs
associated with the remedial works are the managing contractor's
responsibility.
(2) The
government appointed a tier 1 civil works contractor to deliver this $284 million
works package for Elizabeth Quay. The appointment included management of all
subcontractors and completion of all works to a high standard and in accordance
with relevant regulatory standards and legislation.
(3) I have
been advised by the chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Redevelopment
Authority that the water quality issues experienced at the water park and in
the inlet are not connected to the water supply and drainage plumbing matters
being addressed by the Building Commission.
