A WA parliamentary question addresses the cessation of Music and Visual Arts programs at the Great Southern Institute of Technology, inquiring about consultation, student options, and future training provisions. The answer reveals no direct consultation occurred, but some support will be offered for existing students to complete qualifications, and lower-level courses will continue.

(a) No direct consultation took place with students or the local arts community however, all currently enrolled students were advised in late July 2012 of the decision to cease delivery in 2013 of Visual Art and Music courses at Great Southern Institute of Technology.
(b) Not applicable.
(c) The majority of students currently enrolled in the affected Music and Visual Arts courses should be able to complete their studies in 2012.  A small but as yet to be determined number of publicly funded places will be made available in 2013 to assist students enrolled in the Certificate IV in Visual Arts and Certificate IV in Music to complete their qualification.
(d) The Great Southern Institute of Technology will continue to provide for students interested in the Visual Arts and Music in the Great Southern by continuing to offer a range of accredited Certificate II and III courses in the Visual Arts and Music. In addition, a series of fee-for-service lifestyle courses and weekend workshops will be offered for those not seeking accredited training.
