I ask a supplementary question. The figures released today by Treasury show that our tax competitiveness has moved from being the second best in the country to the second worst. Is the Treasurer saying that Treasury released false figures, or is the Treasurer misleading the public? Mr E.S. RIPPER

The Leader of the Opposition clearly cannot read the figures. We have always held, even under his Government, the number three ranking in the country for tax per capita. As a result - Mr M.W. Trenorden: You’re number two now. You’ve gone from second lowest to second highest. Mr E.S. RIPPER: We have not gone from second lowest to second highest. We have always been ranked number three. The Leader of the Opposition should read the figures properly. As a result of the growth in our economy, we have slightly exceeded Victoria, although we do not have Victoria’s latest figures. When the final figures are released we probably will not have exceeded Victoria. However, in the meantime, if we are talking about economic management, the key figure is the impact on the economy. The percentage of gross state product represented by taxation revenue is second lowest after Tasmania, and that is why we have a good economy.
