Police:
I refer to the
recent spate of motor vehicle thefts in Kununurra and the answer to question
without notice 948.
(1) Of the 17 offenders, how many were returned to
their parents or guardians after their arrest?
(2) How many of those who were returned to their
parents or guardians were refused on the first attempt by their parents or
guardians and had to remain in police care or other care?
(3) How many of the 17 are presently in custody?

thank the member for some notice of the question. The following information has
been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
(1) Fifteen of the 17 juvenile offenders were
returned to a responsible adult. Two juvenile offenders were remanded in
custody and placed into the care of Department of Justice.
(2) Nil.
(3) The Western Australia Police Force is unable
to answer this question, as offenders in custody fall within the responsibility
of the Department of Justice.
