QuestionView source ↗

(b) will the Minister undertake to rectify this situation, and introduce an early train on Sundays for members of the public?
The Sunday bus and train services from Armadale have operated for many years with occasional requests for earlier services. In particular, Transperth acknowledges that earlier Sunday morning trains on all lines would be beneficial for some people. However there is a significant cost in introducing these services in both drivers and security staff for what is likely to attract minimal patronage. (b) Transperth future services plan includes earlier train services on Sunday mornings on the Armadale line, with this improvement currently planned to be introduced with the opening of the Thornlie Station in December 2004.

(a) Transperth operates on a finite budget, and must prioritise the allocation of its resources to ensure the community gets maximum benefit from the resources available. Typically weekend services, particularly on Sundays, are characterised by a lower level of patronage, relative to weekday services. Although Transperth recognises and is constantly trying to improve the level of service on weekends, such improvements must be balanced with the requirement to enhance services on weekdays and to provide services to new and expanding areas of Perth.
