MUSEUM — FLOOR SPACE
Taking into consideration the proposed use of part of the new Museum site to showcase the existing power facilities and history of power generation, I ask — (1) How much floor space will be available to display the Museum’s current collections, and how does this compare with the existing site? (2) How does it compare also with the existing Museum, assuming that the two floors previously available at the Francis Street building are still available? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The minister has provided the following answer — (1) The exciting new Museum of the twenty-first century comprises 12 000 square metres of gallery space. This includes the 3 500 square metre Turbine Hall, which will feature the history of power generation. (2) Existing gallery space at the Northbridge site is 1 124 square metres. If the Francis Street gallery were available, it would provide 3 122 square metres of exhibition space.
