(a) The reporting over a four week period in May 2002, of the following four incidents involving cranes, prompted the formation of the Crane Safety Standards Working Group:

(2) On 14 May 2002, a mobile crane in Warnbro tipped whilst loading a concrete panel onto a truck;
(3) On 17 May 2002, a self-erecting tower crane in East Perth collapsed when counterweights were removed with the boom extended; and
(4) On 30 May 2002, the wheels of a mobile crane in Mindarie went through a soak well lid, causing the crane to tip over.
(b) As WorkSafe Division is finalising investigations into each of these incidents, it is not appropriate to provide further details of the incidents or the investigations at this time.
