ROYAL
PERTH HOSPITAL — REDEVELOPMENT
979. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to
commitments made at the 2008 and 2013 elections that a Barnett government would
fund a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of Royal Perth Hospital.
(1) Why has the government not fulfilled these election commitments?
(2) Why has the government ripped $67 million
out of the Royal Perth Hospital redevelopment budget as shown in the 2013–14 Government Mid-year Financial Projections
Statement ?
(3) Given this lack of action on the Royal
Perth Hospital upgrade, is the Royal Perth Hospital redevelopment now as good
as dead; and, if not, what is its status?
(4) Why has the government betrayed WA
electors by intentionally misleading them in respect of the Royal Perth
Hospital upgrade?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) A business case for the redevelopment of
Royal Perth Hospital has been drafted and is currently under review by the
Minister for Health prior to presentation to cabinet.
(2) Funding for the redevelopment of RPH will be sought on completion
of the business case.
(3) The RPH redevelopment is not ''as
good as dead''. Detailed planning of future clinical service delivery at
RPH and detailed master planning for the RPH site in parallel with final
clinical planning for Fiona Stanley Hospital has now been completed. This work
has informed the business case that has been drafted by WA Health and the
Department of Treasury strategic projects, and is currently with the Minister
for Health for review. The business case sets out options for the future role
and function of RPH within the South Metropolitan Health Service.
(4) The government has committed to retaining
RPH, while also implementing a major reconfiguration of the WA health system,
including the commissioning of Fiona Stanley Hospital, the development of Perth
Children's Hospital and the development of Midland Public Hospital.
