I ask a supplementary question. In the light of the minister’s answer, will she commit to providing additional funds for a road if it can be shown that the budget allocation for that road has been reduced and the road poses safety concerns? Ms A.J. MacTIERNAN

As has been done repeatedly, the Government always considers those cases. As I said, in many instances, including those involving Brookton Highway, Muirs Highway and a number of other roads, we have located the funds and carried out the works. We all acknowledge the enormous unmet need across the State, which must be balanced. We are putting in place the Tonkin Highway extension, which the former minister Eric Charlton, who was a member of the member for Roe’s party, repeatedly promised to the people of Armadale. It was provided for in the budget one year and taken out the next. We are ensuring that that road is delivered. Once it is delivered, it is crucial to ensure safe linkage on and off the road.
