C-series trains
216. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Minister for Transport:
I have a
supplementary question. Has the minister personally met with rail and tram
union officials to discuss any of their concerns?
The Speaker: That was not really a supplementary
question. That was a separate question to the first question.
Ms Libby Mettam: Yes it is. It is about
concerns raised.
The Speaker: No, it is not. If you would like to
rephrase the question, it was a different question from your first question.
Ms Sabine Winton interjected.
The Speaker: Minister!
Mr Basil Zempilas: Has the minister met with any
officials from the rail and train union?

AnswerView source ↗

This is interesting. My office is in regular contact,
as I am, with the union. My agency has regular weekly meetings to ensure
that we work with the drivers. Another meeting is being held very shortly to go
through all the issues—regular meetings. We have a great dialogue with
the union and we look forward to continually working with it. The union membership
has increased significantly because we have hired so many more train drivers,
and we will continue to do that, because we like public transport, unlike the
opposition, which would sack every train driver if it had the chance.
