Mr McGowan questions the cost of remediation works at Fiona Stanley Hospital since July 2014. The government's response indicates costs are largely covered by the construction contract's defects liability, with some 'undiscovered defects' to be paid from the project contingency budget.

Answer as at 9 September 2015 -
(a) The cost of defects works has been covered by the Defects Liability provisions of the construction contract. These costs are met by the Managing Contractor and not disclosed to the State.
Undiscovered defects works estimated to cost $366,000 are also being carried out.
Undiscovered defects are defects that could not be identified either due to the fact they were not in use or partial use when the defects liability period was in place, or they are only now showing up as a defect under constant use.
(b) The nature of the defects relates largely around building site assets, for example, replacement of pumps, faulty parts, incorrectly installed site service components, which is not unusual for a project of this size and complexity.
(c)(i) Nil. Once the undiscovered works have been completed the State will pay the amount invoiced from the project contingency budget;
(ii) Nil; and
(iii)  Refer to (a).
