MINERAL ROYALTIES — REVIEW
632. Mr P.C. TINLEY to the Minister for
Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the government's royalty increases, which will raise
$180 million in the 2015–16 financial year.
(1) What percentage of the additional $180 million will come from the
alumina sector?
(2) Will alumina companies with state agreements need to pay additional
royalties?
(3) Will the minister rule out increases in royalties on bauxite?

(1)–(3) I
thank the member for Willagee for the question. The review has only just started and we are going through a process. At
the end of this month we will receive any applications under the review. My
department will look at those applications and then go back to industry with
any recommendations. There are some anomalies under the royalties system,
mainly relating to high-grade copper. There are a number of others that I will
look at. I have no preconceived position. I will take advice from my
department. When the final report is delivered, which will be probably near the
end of next year, I will take any recommendations to cabinet.
