(2) There are 3080 permanent fruit fly traps around ports, metropolitan and selected country areas in Western Australia with a focus on exotic fruit flies. (3) The Department maintains 2,000 traps for Queensland fruit fly surveillance in the Perth Metropolitan area and selected non-metro areas, including Kununurra. 400 traps are for Fremantle Port and all other seaports of first call within Western Australia. Mediterranean fruit fly numbers from 100 traps in the Perth Metropolitan area are obtained from Natal fruit fly traps which use the same lure as that attracts Mediterranean fruit fly. 580 traps are in selected country towns such as Manjimup, Harvey, Donnybrook and Katanning. Trapping grids are specifically set to determine Mediterranean fruit fly presence and abundance.
