BROWSE LNG
PROJECT — ONSHORE LNG PROCESSING
817. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the
minister representing the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the minister's reply on 12 August 2014 to question on
notice 1282 about the cost to Western Australian taxpayers of a new assessment
by three delegates to the Environmental Protection Authority of the
establishment of a liquefied natural gas precinct to service the Browse Basin
gas fields.
(1) How much will the new assessment cost in dollar terms?
(2) What proportion or percentage of the
existing Office of the Environmental Protection Authority's budget is
projected to be spent on the new assessment?
(3) What time frame has been given to the
delegates in which to complete their assessments and make their recommendations
to the minister?

I thank the member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(3)
It is a matter for the independent delegates to determine the form, content and
timing of the assessment. The delegates are currently determining the specific
tasks and time line necessary to complete the Browse LNG precinct assessment,
consistent with environmental impact assessment guidelines and procedures.
Within this context, it is not appropriate that the Minister for Environment
comment on the time line of the assessment being conducted by the independent
delegates or the resourcing requirement.
