My question is to Hon Nick Griffiths in several capacities. I have just referred to an answer to question without notice 1178, for which I thank the parliamentary secretary. However, my question regarding the Roe Highway, and more particularly the Fremantle eastern bypass, reserves was initially addressed to the Minister for Housing and Works. I now address this question to the minister in his capacity as Minister for Housing and Works. Also, if it is relevant - I am unaware of the full extent of changes in government responsibilities lately - I think the minister is also the minister responsible for LandCorp. Hon Nick Griffiths: No. Hon SIMON O’BRIEN: In that case, I address the question to the minister as the Minister for Housing and Works. Hon Nick Griffiths: I will endeavour to answer the question within my portfolio as best I can. Hon SIMON O’BRIEN: I thank the minister for that. The PRESIDENT: Order members! I trust the member will get to the question sooner or later. Hon SIMON O’BRIEN: In answer to question without notice 1178 the House was advised that the Department of Housing and Works has expressed interest in securing current Fremantle eastern bypass reserve land, presumably for some purpose. What is that purpose if it is not to establish public housing? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the honourable member for the question. I heard the answer that was provided to the earlier question asked by the honourable member to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. I noted that reference was made in that answer to the Department of Housing and Works, which the member has quoted. The Department of Housing and Works engages in a number of areas of activity, which are not restricted to only public housing, although that is a very important part of the portfolio. For example, the Department of Housing and Works is involved in carrying out a number of projects on behalf of government. Its expertise is called upon from time to time for a number of those types of matters. If the honourable member wishes to have the full particulars of what the department was seeking on this matter, I invite him to put the question on notice in so far as it relates to that aspect.
