With regard to annual and long service leave for retiring Police officers, I ask -
(1) How much accumulated annual and long service leave did the recently retired Deputy Commissioner, Kingsley Porter have when he retired from the WA Police Service?
(2) In relation to question (1), what was the total payment from the Police budget for this accumulated leave?
(3) As Assistant Commissioner, John Standing has now indicated that he will be retiring on June 30 2003. How much accumulated annual and long service leave will he have accured on that date?
(4) In relation to question (3), what will be the total payment from the Police budget for this accumulated leave?
(5) How much untaken annual leave and long service leave has been accrued by the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioners excluding Assistant Commissioner, John Standing?
(6) In relation to question (5) what would be the total payment from the Police budget for this accumulated leave for each officer?
(7) Will any of the leave be paid for at a higher rate than when it ordinarily fell due, and how many times were these officers been allowed to postpone their annual leave or long service leave?
(8) Are there any regulations, policies or procedures requiring police officers of all ranks to clear outstanding leave entitlements?

The Western Australia Police Service advise:
(1) 97 days annual leave and 335 days long service leave
(2) $158,641.63
(3) 61 days annual leave and 319 days long service leave
(4) $151,453.95
(5) Commissioner as at 30 May 2003 has accrued 38 days annual leave
Deputy Commissioner as at 30 May 2003 has accrued 95 days annual leave and 130 days long service leave.
Assistant Commissioners excluding John Standing as at 30 May 2003 have accrued 186 days annual leave and 310 days long service leave.
(6) Based on current pay rates the total cost of the leave would be $432,215.39
Commissioner $35,317.96
Deputy Commissioner $138,813.75
Assistant Commissioners $258,083.68
(7) Yes. The WA Police Service advise that due to the significant resource commitment that would be required it is not possible to ascertain the number of deferrals involved.
