GARY STOKES - DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE OFFICE OF STATE DEVELOPMENT
Given the disgraceful evidence presented at the Corruption and Crime Commission, has Gary Stokes, a former adviser to both Julian Grill and David Parker, been stood aside or sacked from his position as Deputy Director General of the Office of State Development; and, if not, why not? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

I thank the member for Vasse for the question. As I stand here today, I do not know the answer to that question. Is the member for Vasse suggesting that I should direct that Gary Stokes be sacked? Several members interjected. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I want to know, for the record. As I understand the Public Sector Management Act, if I did that, I would be in breach of that act. However, this is what I would expect to happen. I would expect that the proper process would be followed in relation to Mr Stokes and anyone else who appears before the CCC. I do not expect people to be shown favouritism, or to be treated leniently or overly harshly. People should be treated fairly and according to proper process. I do not intend to start interfering in that process. Mr P.D. Omodei : That is not what you said yesterday. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I know. I want to make sure that the right thing is done. That is what I want to do. There is a question here of due and proper process. I stand by everything I said yesterday. I must say that Julian Grill’s behaviour, as demonstrated by the evidence at the CCC, has been completely and utterly reprehensible. I hope the Labor Party will take the necessary steps to get rid of Julian Grill from the party, and that is the message I have sent to the state secretary of the Labor Party.
