I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) Kaleeya Hospital theatres will close for planned maintenance from 10 April 2009 to 26 April 2009. The obstetrics theatre will remain open during this time. (2) The following metropolitan hospitals have planned operating theatre closures for a week or more in the next six months: Royal Perth Hospital, Wellington Street campus, will reduce from 13 to 11 the number of theatres available from Tuesday, 14 April 2009 to Friday, 24 April 2009—that is a closure of two theatres for 11 days; Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital will close two theatres for two weeks from 13 April to 26 April 2009, and from 27 April 2009 two theatres will be closed on a rolling basis for one month; Swan Health Service will continue to provide emergency and elective list surgery during this period but will be operating at two-thirds its normal capacity between 6 April 2009 and 17 April 2009 inclusive; and at Kalamunda Health Service one theatre remains temporarily closed due to upgrade works and it is expected to reopen in October 2009. (3) One operating theatre will be closed at Busselton District Hospital for a period of two weeks in July 2009. One operating theatre will remain open during this time to ensure availability for emergencies. Although there will be short periods of theatre closure at these sites, the elective surgery waitlist activity will continue with additional sessions carried out over the remainder of the year.
