I refer to the Mooranoppin Reserve, near Kellerberrin and land adjacent to the Reserve constituting the site of the original mission buildings and 19 gravesites, and ask: lamin
(a) will the Minister commit to investigating the acquisition of the site of the original mission and the 19 gravesites for incorporation into the Aboriginal Lands Trust; and
(i) if not, why not;
(b) if no to (a), will the Minister commit to making a request of the Minister for Heritage that the land in question be heritage-listed to ensure its preservation as a site of significance; and
(i) if not why not?
(c) if no to (a) and (b), will the Minister commit to investigate a process whereby the land in question is protected from development that would remove the remnants of the mission buildings and development that would obscure or destroy the gravesites; and
(i) if not why not?

(a) No. The Mooranopping Reserve (21153) is held by the Kellerberin Aboriginal Progress Association. It is an A Class reserve under the
Land Administration Act 1997
(WA) for the purpose of Conservation and Protection of Flora and Fauna, and is protected from development by that vesting. In addition, there are a number of Aboriginal heritage sites on the reserve that are afforded protection under the
Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972
(WA). The adjacent freehold land to the south also holds heritage sites. One 0.4ha parcel of land adjacent to Reserve 21153 is already held by the Aboriginal Lands Trust.
(b) Yes. I will refer this matter to the Hon John Castrilli MLA, Minister for Heritage, as the Minister responsible for the
Heritage of Western Australia Act 1990
(WA).
(c) Not applicable.
