PEEL HEALTH CAMPUS
348. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's
failures over the past two years to provide any significant funding for Peel
Health Campus, to expand its emergency department and invest in desperately
needed health infrastructure in our community. Given the large number of pre-budget announcements by ministers over the
last couple of days, will the minister here and now commit to seeing money
incorporated into the budget to expand the health campus emergency departments?
Point of Order
Mr W.J. JOHNSTON : I draw your
attention to standing order 77(1)(b). Things that cannot be contained in a question
include argument, allegations, inference or imputation.
Mr Z.R.F. Kirkup interjected.
The SPEAKER : Excuse me!
Mr W.J. JOHNSTON : The member
clearly made both an argument and an allegation in his question. Therefore, it
is out of order.
The SPEAKER : That is not a point
of order.
Questions without Notice Resumed
Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP : Thank you very much. Given the time, I will be very quick. Will the
minister commit to expanding Peel Health Campus in the upcoming state budget?

I thank the member for the question.
One thing I can assure him of is that we will spend many millions more than
members opposite ever did in government.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr D.C. Nalder : On health?
Mr R.H. COOK : On Peel Health
Campus. Was the member not listening to the question?
Mr Z.R.F. Kirkup interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Dawesville!
Mr R.H. COOK : I cannot
believe that the member for Dawesville stood in this place with some sort of
crocodile tears about Peel Health Campus. His government's neglect of
that hospital is writ large across the history of its eight and a half years in
office. We have already committed to spending more in the two years that we
have been in office than the member's government committed in the eight
and a half years that it was in office. The member will see what is in the
budget when the budget is delivered, but I assure him that this McGowan Labor
government will spend more on health, putting patients first, and, in
particular, Peel Health Campus than his party was ever capable of doing. I assure
him that health is in good hands because it is in the hands of the McGowan
Labor government. Thank goodness that, once for all, we are putting patients
first!
