I refer to the volunteer-run St John Ambulance centres in the south west. (1) Is the minister aware that the Bridgetown St John Ambulance centre has not been paid for inter-hospital patient transfers for the past three months, and that the outstanding amount is now $16 000? (2) How many other volunteer-run centres in the south west have not been paid for inter-hospital patient transfers since January 2005? (3) What is the normal system of payment for volunteer ambulance centres for patient transfer? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Bridgetown St John Ambulance account was received on 1 February 2005 and authorised for payment on 22 April 2005. Full payment of the account will be made by 6 May 2005. The South West Area Health Service had not been formally notified of St John Ambulance’s 77 per cent fee increase per kilometre from 1 January 2005, resulting in delayed reconciliation of the account. (2) Thirteen centres were affected. Payments for St John Ambulance accounts in the south west were delayed for the reason stated in the answer to (1). (3) Payment is normally made to St John Ambulance within 30 days of receipt of an invoice.
