DEPARTMENT
OF EDUCATION — SCHOOL INFORMATION SYSTEM
495. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
(1) Is the
minister aware of complaints from public schools that the $350 million upgrade
to the Department of Education information and communications technology school
information system, used for essential operational record keeping such as
enrolment information, has not been functioning for the last few weeks and as a
result all emails into schools have been banking up or are not being delivered
at all?
(2) Is the SIS now back at full operational capacity; and, if
not, when will it be?
(3) Does the minister think that $350 million was money well
spent?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) I am not
aware of complaints from schools regarding enrolment information or the banking
up of emails. There has not been a $350 million upgrade to the school
information system.
(2) I am
informed that the school information system has consistently been operating at
a satisfactory level of reliability and availability, other than possibly at
isolated schools that have experienced short-term power failures or equipment
malfunctions.
(3) Not applicable.
Hon Sue Ellery : In that case, I might talk to the
minister behind the chair, because I have a number of complaints.
Hon PETER COLLIER : Please do.
