(a) is it correct that from 1 July 2008 onwards the Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital will be without the services of a resident radiologist, and that radiographers will still take x-rays but they will then forward the x-ray electronically to Perth for examination by a radiologist;
(i) if yes to (a) how and why did this practice come about;
(ii) if no to (a) what is the current practice;
(b) what was the annual budgeted amount for a resident radiologist at the Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital in each of the following years;
(i) 2005;

(c) is it correct that the Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital is attempting to reduce the amount of money paid to the radiologist;

(ii) if no to (d) why not;

(a) No. At present a radiologist is on site at Kalgoorlie Hospital 4 days per week. Outside these days x-rays are taken by radiographers and forwarded electronically to Perth or elsewhere in Australia to a radiologist for reporting.
The current radiology contract expires on 30 June 2008. WACHS - Goldfields is negotiating with the contractor to extend for a further six months so that a full tender process can be undertaken.
Should WACHS - Goldfields be unable to get agreement from the present contractor to extend beyond 30 June 2008 WACHS - Goldfields will negotiate with alternative providers.
