DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
890. Dr A.D. BUTI to the Minister for
Police:
I refer to the ministerXXX ###XXXs
answer in June 2014 that what constitutes family and domestic relationships for
reporting purposes was amended in December 2013 to exclude violence between
more distant family members, including assaults between adult siblings, distant
cousins and relatives. Why did the minister mislead Parliament last Thursday
when she said —
we actually expanded the remit of
domestic violence to include family members who are not necessarily intimate
partners

We
are also capturing other familial relationships; for example, cousin versus
cousin and brother versus brother.

I thank the member for Armadale for
the question. My intention, obviously, was never to mislead Parliament. We did
expand the remit, and then we changed it.
