I thank Hon Ray Halligan for some notice of this question. (1) The debt related to a salary recoup for an officer employed in the Shark Bay area. There was a deed of arrangement between the Department of Fisheries and the then Department of Conservation and Land Management whereby CALM agreed to contribute towards the salary of a shire ranger whom the department employed and continues to employ as a fisheries officer. (2) After the arrangement was discontinued, the Department of Fisheries agreed to fund the outstanding balance of the officer’s salary.
