MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY SERVICE
1335. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Mental Health:
I refer to information contained in
the Mental Health Advocacy Service 2015–2016 ''Annual Report''.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that the Mental Health Advocacy Service has requested a direction
from the minister to assist children who are voluntary patients under the
Mental Health Act?
(2) If yes to
(1), on what date was the request received and has the request been approved;
and, if not, why not?
(3) Has a review
commenced on the resourcing of the advocacy service; and, if yes, what was the
outcome of the review?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

(1) Yes.
(2) The request
was received on 20 October 2016. The minister has agreed to extend the scope of
the services MHAS provides, which is pending formal approval.
(3)–(4) No; funding is
provided through the normal budgetary processes.
