I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The state government's reforms to short-term
rental accommodation have introduced a more consistent regulatory framework
across Western Australia, including a mandatory statewide register for all
short-term rental accommodation and updated planning approval requirements for
both hosted and unhosted short-term rental accommodation. Local governments
across WA have progressed amendments to their local planning schemes to
incorporate these changes into their local planning frameworks, including
significant tourism centres such as Augusta, Margaret River, Busselton and
Shark Bay. To account for regional and metropolitan differences, the reforms
also empower local governments to develop local planning policies to manage
amenity impacts, including parking, occupancy and management requirements. Some
also apply locational criteria that limit unhosted short-term rental
accommodation in certain residential zones and permit it in tourism or mixed-use
zones.
The President: That kind of resembles an essay rather
than an answer. Standing order 106 might apply in relation to that answer.
