In relation to the response given by the Minister in relation to appeals on the level of assessment of the temporary offloading ramp and associated road works, Hearson Cove, Burrup Peninsular, I ask -
(1) Does the Minister stand by her advice to Syntroleum ‘that if the Mermaid Marine facility is operational within the timeframe required by the Syntroleum project, the Mermaid Marine facility should be considered as the preferred option’?
(2) As the Mermaid Marine facility is now operational, does the Minister believe there is any further reason for duplicating its activities by the proposed construction of the temporary offloading ramp?
(3) In light of the availability of the Mermaid Marine facility for Syntroleum to use, will the Minister withdraw the permission granted for the temporary offloading ramp and associated road works, Hearson Cove, Burrup Peninsular?
(4) If not, why not?

(2) No, it would be more desirable and appropriate for Syntroleum to use the Mermaid Marine facility. (3) The proposal was not subject to formal environmental assessment under the Environmental Protection Act 1986, and as such, no formal approval has been granted under that Act. Formal approval for construction of the proposed off-loading ramp rests with the Shire of Roebourne. The Minister has been advised that the Shire granted approval for the temporary off-loading ramp in Hearson Cove in 2000, subject to it being the only suitable option available at the time of construction of the project. If the Mermaid Marine facility is now suitable for the necessary works then it is open to the Shire to withdraw the permission for the temporary off-loading ramp in Hearson Cove. (4) N/A.
