STUDENT-CENTRED FUNDING MODEL — DISABILITY
ALLOCATION
129. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Education:
(1) What is the
method and time line to develop the special education needs reporting tool to
monitor the achievement of students with disability?
(2) Is the
minister satisfied that the disability allocation within the student-centred
funding model is the most accurate way of allocating additional resources to
meet the educational needs of students with disability?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The special education needs
reporting tool has been developed and is being implemented.
(2) Yes. The
disability allocation within the student-centred funding model is the most
accurate and effective method the Department of Education currently has for
allocating additional resources. It is longstanding practice for the department
to allocate resources for students with disability based on medical diagnosis
of impairment together with the level of educational adjustment required and
the context of the school. The new model has altered only the way that
resources are allocated by providing funding in the place of full-time
equivalents, and the number of categories of funding has been simplified.
