Mr Johnson questions the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure about instructing the withdrawal of a tender for a Department of Fisheries facility at Hillarys Boat Harbour due to public pressure regarding a parking review. The Minister acknowledges the Department's actions were problematic and confirms intervention to ensure the review's completion, without directly confirming or denying instructing the tender withdrawal.

DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES RESEARCH AND EDUCATION FACILITY, HILLARYS BOAT HARBOUR 981. Mr JOHNSON to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure: Did the minister instruct the Minister for Fisheries and the Minister for Housing and Works to withdraw the tender after public pressure on the Government to honour its commitment to complete and consider its proposed parking review? Ms MacTIERNAN

AnswerView source ↗

As I have said before in this place, the Department of Fisheries has been pushing the envelope. It was confident that a particular outcome would be the result of the review. Under the previous Government, all these issues were considered and fisheries was given planning approval. I made it clear to the department that I did not want it in any way, shape or form to continue sending mixed messages to the community. The Government was absolutely committed to ensuring that the review was completed. It is true that some of the conduct of the Department of Fisheries was capable of sending mixed messages to the community. I asked the department to stop any such conduct and that was done.
