The Shire is awaiting a works approval from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) before the expansion into a cleared and previously sand-mined area can be completed. A second site within the Shire of Waroona and inside the proposed Alcoa buffer zone is being considered for further expansion of capacity. Negotiations with Alcoa and Iluka Resources are continuing. (2) Yes (3) Information received from the DEP relating to the types of waste that can be received at the Waroona Landfill Site is as follows: · clean fill - material that will have no harmful effects on the environment and which consists of rocks or soil resulting from the excavation of undisturbed material. · type 1 inert wastes - concrete, bricks · type 2 inert wastes - tyres and plastics · putrecible wastes - paper, cardboard · special type 1 wastes - asbestos, asbestos cement products · other wastes that comply with class ii criteria - contaminated soil which complies with contaminant threshold values (CT2) in table 3 or ALSP2 and CL2 values in table 4 of "Landfill Waste Classification And Waste Definitions 1996" (as amended)
