DISPOSAL OF GOVERNMENT COMPUTERS — AUDITOR GENERAL’S REPORT
I refer to the Auditor General’s report that relates to the government’s massive failure to protect people’s private and sensitive information. The Auditor General’s report found that 40 per cent of randomly selected government computers bought at an auction contained highly sensitive information, including tax file numbers, addresses, salary information, dates of birth and even photos, personal letters and emails. Why has the government’s mismanagement resulted in people’s personal, private and very sensitive information to simply not be kept safe by the government? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

I thank the member for Serpentine-Jarrahdale for the question. I became aware of that report a short time ago before question time. I agree that serious issues have been raised and they need to be attended to, and I intend to make sure that they are.
