WA — HAMPTON PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL — UNDERPASS
627. Mr D.J. KELLY to the
Minister for Transport:
I have a supplementary question. Can the minister outline
exactly where the second underpass will be, because the parents are not
interested in a route that will take students through the new Tonkin Highway–Morley
Drive intersection. Exactly where will the second underpass be?

That is a different question.
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Bassendean, I call you now to order for the first time. A quick,
short, sharp answer, minister.
Mr D.C. NALDER :
Certainly, because I enjoy helping members, particularly the member for Morley,
who works very hard in his electorate and for his local community. I am
fascinated that the member for Bassendean is taking such an interest in the
member for Morley's electorate; maybe he is planning on switching seats
at the next election.
The member for Morley raised concerns with me prior to this
week about the route potentially affecting the underpass. I actually agreed
with him. I assured him that we will continue to work with him and the P&C
to ensure that we provide the safest and best possible route for our kids.
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Bassendean!
Mr D.C. NALDER :
The safety of children is one of the most important things that we consider in
government. More work has been done by this government on the safety of our
children around our schools than any Labor government has ever undertaken. The
rollout of the flashing 40 kilometres an hour —
The SPEAKER : I
want a very succinct answer. Just address what the member for Bassendean has
asked. We do not want to hear about 40 kilometre-an-hour signs.
Mr D.C. NALDER : I
just said that we will continue to work with the member for Morley.
Mr M. McGowan :
That's not an answer.
Mr D.C. NALDER : I
said that the current underpass will be retained for the next 12 to 18 months
and then the second one will be built. We will continue to work with the school
and the member for Morley to get the best possible outcome for the school.
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
