I refer to the contract awarded to an east coast-based agency for the production of the “Walking on a Dream” tourism campaign, and I ask: (a) How many other advertising campaigns across government have been awarded to contractors based outside of Western Australia, for either or both creative and production elements; (b) Can the Premier list those campaigns and the value of each: (i) If not, why not; and (c) Can the Premier advise what measures the government is taking to ensure Western Australian creative and production personnel and agencies are prioritised when awarding advertising campaign contracts?

(a) The tourism campaign in question is being delivered by a Western Australian business, with more than 90 per cent of the campaign being delivered by Western Australians. The Department of the Premier and Cabinet did not receive any government campaign advertising applications for the 2024-2025 financial year where the creative or production companies listed by the government agencies as being used on their campaigns were non-WA-based.

The State Government is committed to creating jobs for West Australians and ensuring local businesses are given every opportunity to contribute to its work. All agencies within the Western Australian Government prioritise local ownership, crew, location and creative input to ensure Western Australian businesses are being used for their marketing campaigns. The State Government has engaged with local industry to develop a best practice directive to maximise the participation of WA owned and based businesses in its campaigns creative communications projects.
